240 tonnes, that's the weight of
this component sent on its
journey to St. Petersburg with a
24 axle heavy goods vehicle by Richter
Maschinenfabrik in Hessisch Lichtenau on Monday,
01.10.2007. Our photo shows the head of the
company Axel Richter on the left and sales manager
Joachim Kraus. By road
from the River Losse to the River Weser. A second
part follows this evening. In Hann. Münden-Gimte the parts
will be placed on pontoons and taken
downstream, carried by large quantities of
extra water which had been drained from
the Edertalsperre reservoir.

Start: Monday evening, 23 hrs, B7 trunk road: The super transporter with a 240 tonne component as its cargo started moving. Photos zlr)
Richter Maschinenfabrik AG sends 240 tonne component on
its way – first stop in Gimte
Hessisch Lichtenau. 6000
kilometres is the distance travelled by the heavy goods
transport firm Felbermayer, to find a suitable
route for this colossus. On Monday
evening the time had finally arrived: A 240 tonne
component left the yard of the Lichtenauer firm
Richter Maschinenfabrik AG for Gimte an der Weser,
a district of Hann. Münden.
The first problems occurred on Spangenberger-Straße. One
tractor unit each at the front and back
moved the gigantic load with a weight of six fully loaded
truck trailers. The wheels of the front 600 HP strong
vehicle spun in the rain on a slight upward slope. The three sets
of traffic lights on the B7 also had to be removed from their
brackets and turned aside as the low loader's hydraulic lowering
was insufficient. The super transporter with 24
axles arrived in Gimte early yesterday morning.
There the component will be loaded onto a pontoon
boat. Until now, such weights have been transported
southwards to Hanau first and from there loaded in the inland
waterway port to reach Hamburg along the River Main and River
Rhine. The route along the River Weser opens up
new opportunities for the Lichtenauer firm.
A second colossus will arrive there
early tomorrow and is also to be loaded.
Richter Maschinenfabrik AG in Hessisch Lichtenau
made the two 16.5 metre long, 4.3 metre
wide and 3.8 metre high components. The components
are for an open die pipe press in Russia, on which
pipeline pipes are to be built.
The next stop is in Grohnde near Hameln
where the parts will be loaded onto an inland waterway
vessel. From there it will continue to
Rotterdam and from there it will travel on a
sea-going ship to Saint Petersburg. In
Russia the colossal components will
travel another five days until they arrive at the
necessary construction site. In Gimte the parts will now wait until
Friday on so-called "elephant feet" near the Bundeswehr ramp in the
former sappers' barracks.
